Then in #Newfoundland and #Labrador the province has been implementing its alcohol strategy, one that focuses on alcohol-related harms through prevention, screening, intervention, and treatment.

Not too far, in #PEI we have seen some of the most progressive approaches. Not only campaigns that are in public spaces led by government, but public consultations and conversation about the relationship the Islanders have with alcohol, and developing strategies and new approaches to reduce risk.

🧵There are fantastic examples of provinces, right here in Atlantic Canada, taking bold steps. In the #NewBrunswick spring legislative session, the liberals voted down an opposition bill to expand alcohol access, citing public health and the risks. There’s also public health campaigns.

September always feels like a reset. This fall in #AtlanticCanada we’re focused on expanding #cancerscreening, stronger #alcohol & #tobacco policies, better #drugaccess, affordable care and more. Grateful to do this work with @cancersociety.bsky.social and partners committed to better outcomes 💛

#NovaScotia once led the country on tobacco control. Now? We lead in youth vaping and smoking.
@cancersociety.bsky.social has sounded the alarm for years. It’s time to step up.

Raise the age to 21.
Strengthen enforcement. Modernize the law.

We’ve done it before. Let’s do it again.

This is what #foodinsecurity looks like.

Bare shelves at the #Dartmouth Community Fridge. Quiet urgency.

1 in 4 in our community now rely on food banks or fridges like this, and that number is growing.

Advanced polls are open! Big love to all the GOTV teams hitting the ground running. And hey…while you’re out voting, please take a second to thank the poll workers. They’re doing their best to keep things smooth and fair for everyone. Be kind.

It’s #DaffodilMonth and this week I hosted @novascotiandp.bsky.social and @LiberalPartyNS at The Lodge That Gives to talk about affordability, caregiver support, and more. We at @cancersociety.bsky.social knows that to take on cancer, it means all of us working together. It takes a society 💛

Wonderful chat with the @ctvnews-rss.bsky.social Atlantic Morning crew about @cancersociety.bsky.social’s #DaffodilMonth. We were joined by Kyle who shared his cancer story and struggles he faced. But he didn’t face it alone - we were there with him. Check it out: tr.ee/4ydnHCb41f

Thank you, Hon Derek Mombourquette, for raising this important issue at the #NovaScotia Health Committee. @cancersociety.bsky.social has been calling for a refundable tax credit to better support the millions of #caregivers who step up every year, providing billions of dollars in unpaid care 🧵/1

📢 a #lungcancer screening program is on the horizon for #PEI - an important step toward earlier detection and better outcomes for Islanders. @CCS_Advocacy has been encouraging the Island to join its sister provinces in providing this vital cancer screening tool

Some “just because” flowers from the beautiful Prince Edward Island. Just a little proof the Island grows more than potatoes, it grows joy too.

🧵 /1 I had the opportunity to speak to the Nova Scotia Committee on Public Bills about Bill 36, the Free Trade and Mobility within Canada Act. As we push for a more unified Canada in trade, we need to ask—are we bringing that same ambition to our public healthcare system?

🧵 As Premiers gather this weekend, we at the Canadian Cancer Society are looking for action. In 2024, people with #cancer and their #caregivers will shoulder 20% of Canada’s total cancer costs, amounting to $7.5B. We need to make #cancercare more #affordable but also more #equitable. 1/3

This means that 27-weeks of unpaid job protection for those with serious illnesses has received royal assent in #NovaScotia, #PEI, and #Newfoundland and #Labrador. Province by province, we at the Canadian Cancer Society are fighting to protect workers. #Cancer doesn't wait, but your job should.
