Controversial opinion but this was the best Die Hard!

Never heard of it. Any good?

Very interesting! Why are there so few decent Viking movies when it's such an interesting historical period that mist people are interested by...

Yeah if you search for a picture of the pyramids taken from the opposite angle (looking NE) you see how close the Cairo metropolis is - actually a much more interesting picture of the pyramids than the normal sand, Nile, camels etc. that you normally see

Still waiting to see a biopic about Hannibal (the Carthaginian general) - not very obscure I know but Denzel Washington was strongly linked with it for years and it's some incredibly interesting history.

Wow, looks interesting. Is this the first time Cleopatra graced movie screens?

Gladiator is a classic. Seems to me that Ridley Scott has been trying to recapture the magic of it for decades now:

With his other historical epics like Exodus, Robin Hood, Napoleon and obviously Gladiator 2 he hasn't quite been able to do it

Haven't seen this version but we did an episode of the podcast about the brilliant 1984 version.

Conflict between the two main characters completely fabricated but not the depiction of Mozart as a bawdy fan of toilet humour, that's historically accurate.

Hitchcock version is the perfect Sunday afternoon film 👌

Never heard of it. Must check it out

Roald Dahl also wrote the screen play for the Bond movie You Only Live Twice (1967). My personal favorite Bond

Yep. It's a pretty poorly constructed list - The Cruel Sea (1953) also missing. Lots of others too.

Not seen but interesting review. I just don't think Glen Powell has the natural on screen charisma to be the lead in a movie like this.

Must also say that I'm a massive fan of the original with Arnie - almost peerless '90s action movie

Emerick did Independence Day but the rest of his movies are pretty poor (although there is a lot of love for The Patriot of course!).

Good points about cavemen but if they made a movie about more recent prehistory we could see what complex and fascinating societies people used to live in

Great fun Jackie Chan movie 👌

We did an episode on 10,000 BC, it's truly awful nonsense and classic Roland Emerick. Can't understand why there isn't more interest in making a decent 'caveman' movie. Sigh

Hear! Hear! Ian. The Cruel Sea is a wonderful, moving film. Should be on the list
November 28, 2025 at 3:14 PM
Sounds incredible - never heard of it before now

I'm also a prehistory lover but I can't think of a single decent movie set in prehistor - do you know any?
November 28, 2025 at 2:52 PM
The New World (2005) is a forgotten masterpiece
November 28, 2025 at 2:51 PM
Very interesting take - never thought of it like that

Always thought it was some kind play on the word 'epic so I pronounced it 'bi-opic' but I understand it's actually 'bio-pic' as in biographical picture I presume...
