I've been thinking about that joint more... if you have machines, you could probably make an accurate shooting board and plane down to a scribed line. way more accessible than a miter jack and would allow for a reproducible long miter

Miter jack vises are dinosaurs… red rose makes but them very expensive new. Mine is a very lucky antique find. Mitered dovetails I’m familiar with are thru cut. There’s a good fww article in the archive on them

I think it's a tough joint by hand; lots lot of end grain glue surface which would leave it weak. But, I've done long 45 degree angles using a miter jack vise before. If I tackled this joint I'd probably cut the rabbet first then would take down the 45deg side. Consider mitered dovetail corners?
