There’s something about being in my 40s that inspires me to strive for all the hard things: learning violin, hand-piecing a double wedding ring quilt, reading Ulysses. It’s like I’m tackling my Masters degree for hobbies.

Ulysses is considered “a paragon of difficult and obscure literature,” so “commodious,” that the introduction refers to me as a “first-time reader,” assuming that (like our local Mt Nelson) it will require multiple attempts.
