I have plans! Took an embarrassingly long time (on the scale of years) to get good enough to make reliable croissant dough but is finally paying off, even though as a vegan I wont actually benefit first hand...
God help me suddenly intensely hungry. Thank you for being a partner in crime on this!

I am late to the party. Well actually I'm not at the party at all, my mum will be. But I shall spectate and yearn.
Actually I'm very glad for your reassurance because it felt both expensive and a fripperry - thank you!

The jam calendar arrived yesterday. Have lost all interest in November and just want it over and done with.

If I ran these things I'd give the whole class the grade achieved by the lowest individual. I'm totally convinced that the best way to learn is to coach others. Plus it's just... human.
Also this is the world I want to live in, and we should try to build this world.

Right. On.
The most important thing students need to realise is that they're in it together and that it's their responsibility to show up for the team. A class which works is a class who do the work. If everybody's contributing, everybody succeeds together.

Hard agree.

This course continues to be astonishing. A feast. A debauch. I am positively basking in the reading.
(Much more so, truth be told than the actual course I am actually taking for credit at the moment.)
Thank you so much.

On the one hand the students' behaviour is so sad, so incomprehensible, so disappointing, and yet I think everyone wishes they had the stones to do this. Brava!

There's a little bit that might be useful in the first chapter of Smith, Andrew. Sugar: A Global History. Reaktion Books, 2015.

"Barmcake" is a semi-affectionate epithet for somebody who is gently crazy - I suppose the US equivalent would be 'frootloop'.
"puddin'" similarly affectionate meaning 'useless': 'you great puddin!'

Interesting to read about the weird half product placement, / half collaboration with Tiffany on jewellery recalling GdT's comments (in Cabinet of Curiosities) that the extremely similar necklace he designed for Liz in Hellboy could have been marketed...

That's VERY interesting indeed, thank you. I am in general unenthused by AI but one of the (few) positives will hopefully be the ability to query machine readable data without technical skills so perhaps there is hope there that the interface shortcomings will only be blockers in the short term?
