Traveling to Mexico this spring. I need to find a shirt to travel in that makes it clear that I did not vote for the guy.

My 11 YO finished treatment for leukemia earlier this year. I ordered a grooming tool for a Christmas gift for her to use on her horse. I opened the box today and found this. WTF? I am enraged by this. Why wouldn’t Chewy disclose this info before people order it?

Why do stores insist on putting price stickers on the glass of picture frames? 🤯

I went to a church service this morning with my daughter to watch her BFF play the handbells. I did not spontaneously combust, though I did get uncomfortably warm. 🔥

Our Christmas card theme this year is ‘joyful and triumphant’ and man, truer words have never been spoken. What a spectacular year! 🔔

[Raising Durham] Main Character Energy: Life Beyond Your “Expiration Date”
The world is hesitant to cast women like me as the main character. Instead, we’re the wise friend, the frazzled mom, or the “frumpy” comic relief—bit players who are often sidelined or overshadowed by...

I’m working so hard on engagement for our Giving Tuesday campaign on social and just can’t seem get traction. Has anyone seen any particularly clever or touching posts or messages?

Just the best boy ever with his Christmas blanket.

I LOVE being able to write about my life and experiences for a hyper-local community news source! Writing and Durham and two of my most favorite things. 💙

My friend from high school (who lives in DE) had an emergency in NC today. I am currently on a sofa in her hotel room in Raleigh, watching her 3 YO while she and her husband are going through something awful at the hospital. Sometimes we’re just in the right place at the right time.

Mailing my check in this week to secure my spot in Durham’s Master Gardener program. So excited! My parents named me and my sis after plants and I was obviously playing the long game with them. 🌱

Attended a small fall festival hosted by a friend–a local realtor–today. We met when she learned of our non-profit and mission and has jumped in to support us. Her colleagues are so motivated to help us make connections in the Durham building community. Another reason to love Durham! 🐂

This book was such a lovely surprise. I picked this as the least worst of the seemingly awful options for this month’s subscription box and I am so glad I did. It was beautiful and sad and funny and whew. Loved it so much. I’ve read 140 books this year and this is easily in the top ten! 📚

I’m curious, what is Caitlyn Jenner’s take on the bathroom issue in the Capital? She was so vocal about how trans women shouldn’t compete in women’s sports, which was WTF. How would she feel about being banned from the ladies room, thanks to her friend Trump and his minions?

Working full time, single momm-ing, and starting a nonprofit is not for the faint of heart. Something’s gotta give, right?

My daughter is unvaccinated through no fault of her own and we are counting the days until her body is recovered enough to be re-vaccinated after chemo. Vaccines aren’t just about protecting yourself, it’s about caring for others. Crossing all the things that she can get these shots before

In early 1958, my mother was a NYC elementary school teacher: she was exposed to a student w/ Rubella ("German Measles").

Rubella is almost always a very mild illness. Most don't even know they have it. My mother had very mild symptoms. 1/8

Gearing up for our first Giving Tuesday as an actual 501(c)(3). Our social media is relatively popular but that doesn’t translate to donations. I need a little pizazz and I’m struggling to find it. 🫠

Omg. Mailchimp hasn’t added new email subscribers to our Harper’s Home email list since MARCH, despite new sign ups. 🫠 For a small, new non-profit, that is a big hit. Shoot.

Listening to the talk of Trump’s plans for mass deportation with the help of the military makes me think of all of the people who enter the military as children of immigrants who feel compelled to show their gratitude to the US through service.
