The mapping procedure supports sociological & policy applications. E.g., we find that the Life–Non-life distinction is clearly indicative of gender differences in epistemological tastes across disciplines. The stakes in the knowledge space also relate to publication practices, teamwork, or funding.

By applying geometric analysis to algorithmic topics and designated disciplines derived from scientific papers, we obtain coordinates for an epistemological positioning system 🧭. This system locates research portfolios of individual knowledge producers in our multidimensional #MapOfScience.
