Yesterday’s adventure: collecting settled pollution from the George Washington Bridge, adding to a clear glaze and starting some glaze tests. All part of a big project underway to use clay to express the experience of breathing in NYC

I love Octavia Butler but I don’t think that particular image represents a utopia she would imagine. That’s very much a technocratic, flying car future, with nature still constrained, lawns not landscapes. The bright chrome reflective surfaces, the pristine control… she imagined different futures
