UNDERSTANCE Hi Jillian, As of Tuesday, February 4th, new tariffs have taken effect. Here is what this means for you: For our US customers, an additional 52% in duties will now apply on top of our prices. We collect this and give it to the US border agency. For example, a $59 USD bra will now be $95 with duties included. This 52% consists of: 25% (existing tariff from 2018) 10% (new tariff introduced on February 1) ~17% (standard commodity tariffs for bras, underwear, and sleepwear, varying by sub-category) The most significant change is the removal of the "de minimis" exemption, which previously allowed duty-free shipping from Canada to the US for orders under $800. This is the reason tariffs introduced earlier were not applicable before today. The 30-day delay on Canada tariffs only applies to items made in Canada.

Why: Researchers from Duke University are conducting a study investigating if menstrual products advertised as scented or for odor control affect the vaginal microbiome compared to unscented menstrual products. How: If you agree to participate you will be asked to: (each of the bullet points is shaped like a tampon) Self-collect vaginal swabs during 4 menstrual cycles for microbiome assessment. Complete a short questionnaire each cycle. Complete a demographic and short health history questionnaire. Use study-provided menstrual products during 2 menstrual cycles (one cycle you will use scented/odor control products and one cycle you will use unscented products). Who: Up to 50 of individuals aged 18-40 years who have regular menstrual cycles (approximately every 4 weeks) that last at least 3 days, can safely use tampons, do not have allergies/hypersensitivity to fragrances, are not or do not plan to become pregnant over the study period will take part in this study, and have not given birth in the past 12 months. Compensation for your time will be provided. There's a drop of blood with a QR code on it where you can learn more - I'll post that separately!

Best stocking stuffer purchase: a giant grab bag of Japanese Kit-Kat flavors. Tonight’s selection included chocolate orange, matcha, wasabi, and apple pie
Four small colorfully wrapped Kit Kat candy bars. These have Japanese language on them and the red-and-white KitKat logo you’re probably familiar with. The top bar is orange with a picture of an orange drizzled in chocolate. The second bar is just a forest green wrapper. The third bar is a pale green with something that looks like a knobby root and green roundish leaves on each side (presumably wasabi). The last bar on the bottom is orange with red on the sealed ends and has a picture of a white ghost (?) with a purple speech bubble above it that says “LOVE” in pink lettering. A small rectangular cooler bag-pale blue with candy, hearts, and other pastel cartoons all over it and the Sugoi Mart logo. The straps are bright yellow.

Book nook!
A rectangular book shaped box that opens up into a scene of an old street in Taipei. Good oysters in Durham! Seraphine is a New Orleans style restaurant that’s so good!
A metal tray with oblong indentations. The indentations are filled with butter, cheese, and oysters that have all been broiled. The tray has a trough running down the middle to collect all the butter so you can sop it up with bread. Absolute gut bomb but it tasted amazing.
