Function calls in AI are a bigger deal than most realize.
At some point, we’ll use AI assistants instead of standalone software. We can already do a lot today.
I built an image processing app for ChatGPT - no UI, just pure function calls to a headless API service.

Spreadsheets are a specialized programming language. It requires a specialized runtime environment - a spreadsheet engine. ChatGPT does not have such an engine and therefore cannot directly access or understand spreadsheet models with their formulas, references, functions and calculation methods.
