His final game in Tigers colours was in May 2019 versus Bath, and he moved to become part of the club’s coaching set-up.

He was also part of the team winning the 2012 and 2017 Anglo-Welsh Cup finals. He won representative honours in 2009, scoring a try on his debut for England Saxons.

Smith made his Tigers debut versus the Barbarians in March 2006. The son of Ian ‘Dosser’ Smith, he had two seasons at Nottingham after his Tigers debut, and returned to play in Premiership finals in 2009, 2010 (scoring a try), 2012 and 2013.

He guided the club to Premiership and Anglo-Welsh Cup wins in 2007, his final season with the club. And for added value he managed to play a couple of additional games against the Barbarians in 2005 and 2006.

Howard left in 2001 to go back to the Brumbies and later had a stint at Montferrand. He returned to Welford Road to become backs coach again in 2004, and took the role of head coach in 2005.

He had a 100% record as a player in the Premiership, winning in each of his three seasons, and finished his on field trophy haul with the 2001 Heineken Cup triumph.

Joining from the Brumbies, Howard made his debut in September 1998 against Harlequins. He doubled up as backs coach from 2000.
