Thoroughly enjoyed giving last night’s sold out Sarum Chronicle annual lecture on ‘We’re All Doomed - art of the Last Judgement.’
Social, art & religious history combined. Plenty of Dooms & paintings, especially 15th C Bosch, Memling, Van Eyck.
Dad’s Army & Dr Who too!

Had the whole of St Thomas’s in Salisbury to myself this morning, after a visit to @salisburymuseum.bsky.social ahead of my talk there next Thursday 13th Nov for the Sarum Chronicle annual lecture entitled “We’re All Doomed”. And the best doom in England is … 😊

Parking attendant today at my third talk of the week, this one at Dauntsey under the glorious Doom there. Previous talks in Malmesbury for the museum on the Reformation and then on Last Judgement Art. Similar talk planned in November for Sarum Chronicle annual lecture.

Churches of Salisbury & District was launched last night at Salisbury Methodist Church to a large audience sitting under this magnificent floor to ceiling Creation Embroidery. The evening went very well. Thanks to the many people who attended and the glowing feedback we received.

My favourite modern window in all of the Salisbury churches in the new book, which I have popped in to see a couple of times recently whilst delivering order forms to churches - Tom Denny’s magnificent pastoral scenes in Middle Woodford #Wiltshire #StainedGlassSunday

Another day of leaflet distribution for early bird prices for the Salisbury & District Churches book. Starting at the delicious St Mary’s at Breamore in Hampshire. Look hard and you can see Saxon traces here.

Mostly taking a break from Salisbury Churches book promotion this week (though contact me if you want a copy at early bird discount), today I popped into Bristol Cathedral for this view looking down into
the Berkeley Chapel for #TraceryTuesday

Visited 8 churches today with leaflets for the Sarum Chronicle published Salisbury Churches book at an early bird discount.
In the last church I was asked ‘what are you writing next?’
Good question 🤔

A vibrant Tree of Life from
1996 by Andrew Taylor in St John’s, East Grimstead, #Wiltshire which is Church number 59 in the forthcoming Churches of Salisbury & District out June 2025.
Happy Easter.

Strange mix of experiences today when leaving leaflets for the discounted early bird price for the Salisbury Churches book. Wardens and visitors snatched them from my hands with great interest, but in 2 churches there was great fear for their future. Will they last?

Not sure these photos quite work 😂 - delivering leaflets offering pre publication purchase of the book to some of the churches featured in it today. 6 down, 59 to go - it’s gonna be a busy week!

As a break from church book promoting this week I colourised these photos of 4 generations of dad’s maternal line, born 1915, 1891, 1868, 1842, in Edinburgh, Inverness, Portsmouth & Dublin. Colour brings them so much more to life.
