I scrapped the reading my #history class was going to do for Monday; as a treat for taking their first exam, we're going to have some fun with #earlymodern #Renaissance #paleography. Chat about hands, scripts, ink, paper parchment; there are some easier ones and then some challenges 😆

The embassy of Alonso de Velasco is such a fascinating case study for the development of Spanish female diplomacy in England. Finding more pieces of the puzzle even when I am looking for something else entirely 🤗

Another portrait obsession. Clearly related to one of Queen Isabel of Bourbon. Documents identify the sitter as Juana de Salinas or Casilda de Campo: either a Spanish ambassador's mother or wife 😃 Might need a trip to Dublin? "Portrait of a Spanish Noblewoman," c. 1620, National Gallery of Ireland.

What I do when I am not writing my dissertation: I bake… a lot. Bread last week, lemon cake yesterday, and kouign-amann today. Thankfully I have family willing to share all of it 🤗
