Woe and the Weight of an Ashen Sky

It's been a hard week. Like many, I am struggling to find words to fill the emptiness of my soul in this weary world. Most days, I am able to power through with the help of massive amounts of caffeine and spite. I am determined to not let the bastards outlive me. But this week was a series of black dog days where little is enjoyable and every little pinprick of annoyance turns into a sword.

This week is about zombies. And capitalism. And wolves.
In Graveyard Keeper, the dead don't rest—they work.
Just like you do.
Just like they want you to.
The Zombie, the Wolf, and the Shovel
You think they serve you. But they'll be there long after you're gone. This week I've been contemplating zombies. Now, my favorite version of the risen is Shaun of the Dead. Not only is it one of the funniest movies ever made, it ends with people just continuing to exist after cataclysm. Liz and Shaun clean up the blood, ignore the death rattles from the shed, and use the newly dead for menial labor.

The Sin is You -The Seven Deadly Sins as Quest-Givers Graveyard Keeper is structured like a catechism of decay. Each major quest-giving NPC embodies one of the Seven Deadly Sins, not by accident but by design:

The Graveyard Keeper: The Ship Isn’t Coming
I never expected to develop a strange new class consciousness—or rediscover religion—in a pixelated medieval corpse-management sim. Graveyard Keeper is an incredibly inaccurate historical depiction of cemetery work. After a car accident, our unnamed protagonist wakes up in a vaguely medieval village and is promptly declared the new Keeper of the local graveyard. The promise is simple: manage the graveyard, improve the church, do a good job… and maybe, one day, you'll go home.

This is just our version of Mao sending everyone to the farms. This obsession with “real jobs” instead of real purpose comes from the exact same people who would never actually go do work. It’s always someone else that needs to go.
White dudes are just bored, that’s why we need to destroy the economy.

Spent the weekend over caffeinated and manic.

Not great for my mental health (hello conspiracy board) but great for housework.

My bathroom floor is so shiny now I can see reality fracturing.

Woke up with that particular kind of ache — the one where you’re too tired to fight the system, but too angry to play along.

So I wrote instead.

JUST IN: Democrats have defended two legislative seats tonight in special elections in northern Virginia, in SD10 & HD26.

This means that Democrats will keep their majority in the state Senate and the state House heading into the 2025 legislative session.

The "city upon a hill" has become a beacon of doom, torn apart by greed and division, its days marked by the body count.

So I say this: I shall not race to chase the plastic dream. I still believe we can avoid shipwreck—by doing justly, loving mercy, and speaking my truth, even to an empty house.

This holiday season, I've been reflecting on John Winthrop's A Model of Christian Charity.

We do not delight in each other. We do not make others' conditions our own. Instead, new ways are found to keep us separate

From the Preamble to the IWW Constitution:

"The working class and the employing class have nothing in common. There can be no peace so long as hunger and want are found among millions of the working people and the few, who make up the employing class, have all the good things of life."
