A new addition to our archives. This photo of the Naval Training Station Newport Band arrived yesterday and we are very excited to have brought it home.

The photo was taken in 1919 at Destroyer Hall.

New to our collection. This photo postcard of the Fort Adams bandstand. While we don't know the date, the band is most likely the 7th Coastal Artillery Corps Band under the direction of John T. Freeman.

From the June 26, 1896, Newport Daily News.

Katherine Collon was born in Newport. While looking for records on her life we came across this article. You might recognize the name of the other musician mentioned here. She was famous for some non-musical lifesaving activities.

With St. Patrick's Day coming, I thought I would visit two of Newport's most famous Irish musicians that you most likely have never heard of

Principal Musician Peter Rice, 1st U.S. Artillery Regiment Band.

Chief Musician John T Freeman, 7th C.A.C Band.

When researching a concert that happened in Newport I came across this gem. It's from the January 1, 1897, Newport Daily News

Don't pick music that the officer in command doesn't like!

Julia Bradley was a Newport socialite. Her family owned Sea View Terrace (the exterior of Collinwood Mansion in the original Dark Shadows.)

On a date she joined the Newport Casino Orchestra and performed a violin solo, borrowing the conductor's violin!
