I believe you are correct! Found a few photos from Aaron Goldberg’s book on Disneyland’s opening day and from everything you can see I would say it looks smoother than decomposed granite but it is really hard to tell. It seems like a big risk even if it was just for a short time.

I dream of a Disney+ show where they just show chunks of the Disney Channel programming from this time with all the filler and commercials. Similar to The Mouseketeers at Walt Disney World.
