Historian of Bar'leth is an account dedicated to discussing Star Wars content through the lens of real-world history and culture, with additional discussion of new books, comics and more thrown in!
I got my hands on Master of Evil last week, and it was quite the fun read! It is so difficult to discuss the novel without revealing spoilers, so I'll be vague, but this #StarWars novel dives into a very particular period of galactic history with an interesting angle, and links to- 1/3

The fifth book cover.

They did. Corey created five book covers for Star Wars, all in The High Republic. They are amazing works, and so even if Lucasfilm itself did not directly commission their creation, it is little wonder Corey's art has appeared at the company in light of their existing contributions.

Technically, it screams, which is much worse!

-style of armor forging compared to the worldbuilding of The Mandalorian would make sense and expand the world of Star Wars. Also, give me armoured Jedi in the days of old, in the days of Lord Corvax! So much room to explore, expand, and use this great art! 3/3

-regarding a Mandalorian and Geonosian pair forging armor for the Jedi as part of a deal. While I know there’s an embargo on basically anything Mando related outside of the Mandoverse, GIVE ME THAT PAIRING SOON PLSSSSS. It is such a fascinating idea, and to see a very different- 2/3

The process behind the #StarWars #TheHighRepublic Phase 3 Luminous 9 armor was great to see in Art of Vol. 2, and so much was unused! I’ve attached some of my favorite pieces to these posts, but another element I really wish we had gotten was the fascinating idea proposed by Iain McCaig- 1/3

-give me more Pony Express-Telegraph-Train-analogues any day of the week! In the end, I think THR heavily leans toward the less complicated side of the Space Western genre fusion and lacks the majority of the baggage thanks to various elements big and small. 4/5

-though I enjoyed how different the focus was here. We got some trope figures, but the shift to focusing on connection and exploration through the Pathfinders was very fun as a history buff. I really hope we see more of them in future stories, so much of Phase 2 is great, but- 3/5

One of the most interesting elements gathered from Art of #TheHighRepublic Vol. 2 is the reported disagreements regarding the direction Phase 2 took in drawing from the westward expansion of the USA to inform its story and world. I had always seen those elements, but to learn that authors like- 1/5

-truly phenomenal, and I REALLY hope we get to see some of them someday soon whenever #StarWars delves back in time to the Old Republic, which will surely be far more medieval inspired so all of his amazing work around armor can be used! So much else to discuss, but for now: Superb book! 3/3

I had to wait a little bit longer than I would have liked, but I got Art of #TheHighRepublic Vol. 2 last week!! I was so glad to finally read this, see all of the amazing art, and get such a great look at how Phases 2 and 3 came into being. Some of my theories on influences and inspiration- 1/3

Better late than never in discussing Sanctuary! I will avoid spoilers, but ultimately, the novel is a perfect arc of #StarWars #TheBadBatch with a hint more edge due to the different stakes and villains involved. Everyone is rendered great here, and the new characters are fascinating. 1/2

I’ve fallen dreadfully behind on posts for recent #StarWars releases, but that changes today! The Crystal Crown! An excellent @tessagratton.bsky.social YA novel that explores beloved #TheAcolyte characters on a detail-rich planet! A load of other fun new characters, and a lot to love here. 1/2

Enough time has passed since the release of the novel #Wayseeker, and since #TrialsoftheJedi, that I’ll finally be discussing various aspects of the book in the coming days! In short, this #StarWars novel is a tremendous culmination of work and dedication which should be deeply lauded. 1/2

It seems likely that key plot details around the planet were established early into the show’s production. Ezra Bridger’s name, and the Season 2 premiere’s tease of the Empire being on the planet for another reason, helped set the stage for the shocking reveal of the World Between Worlds. 2/4

The #StarWars planet Lothal being named after the ancient port of Lothal in modern day India is not a new fact. But, I rarely see any deeper analysis of how that name might have impacted the story of #StarWarsRebels, since Lothal means “the mound of the dead” in the local language, Gujarati. 1/4

This is just one way that the stories of #TheHighRepublic may have had a major impact on events of the Skywalker Saga, in shaping the upbringing and ideology of a man who would go on to help fundamentally reshape the galaxy in his cruel image alongside other men of equally callous character. 5/5

The Battle of Eriadu is a grand finale to #TheHighRepublic , and clearly illustrates the strengths and weaknesses of the Nihil. But what is Eriadu left with in the aftermath? I suggest a hatred of outsiders for the chaos unleashed by the Nihil and for those who did not bleed for the planet. 1/5

Jedi Knights reintroduced Atha Prime in a new, canon iteration of the Kenner idea for a Star Wars villain post-RoTJ. He is shown to have substantial knowledge of genetics in line with those old ideas, having created a horde of self-replicated creatures with incredibly strong skin in Issue 2. 2/3

The #StarWars comic series Jedi Knights has seen interesting explorations of various characters, new and old. But Issue 3, while full of stunning visuals, prompted some to wonder how it might factor into the wider plot of the series given how removed it seems. But, I have a theory for this. 1/3

This implication seems to be that the Khepi became a suicide cult. They prepared for “the Final Ritual”, their faith directed them “to send their deceased to the stars” and when the plot McGuffin is used in 1 of the 2 DLC endings, the headless droids that come to life start to kill everyone. 4/4

But the big reason why I love them is the detailed, academic-style information you can find on some of them regarding the Khepi, the extinct civilization at the heart of the DLC’s story. Some familiar names make appearances as authors on these excerpts too, and the attention to detail is great. 2/4

With Ghirra Starros as their greatest lobbyist, groups like the Trade Federation will push for expansions of their power using those government contracts as leverage, resulting in loosening laws and regulations that ultimately get us to the corporate dominance of the Prequel Trilogy. 3/3

Something small from #TrialsoftheJedi was a mention of the recent formation of the Trade Federation. #TheAcolyte ‘s Visual Guide noted that they were also one of the companies that helped lobby for the creation of the Corporate Sector, meaning the Sector is very new in galactic history terms. 1/3
