Well, I would say: there is abstract art. You can also start with something abstract. And the abstract belongs to reality (it is part of reality). Reality is there, it cannot be removed.

I think you can't steal a piece of a soul with a photo, but you can connect to someone's soul with it. In return you open up and give access to your soul through the photos you take.
This makes you accessible and perhaps vulnerable, but there's no need to be afraid of losing parts of your soul.
