I've had the incredible honor of seeing LU AND REN'S GUIDE TO GEOZOOLOGY on five (!!!!!) "Best Of 2025" lists this year, including @bookriot.bsky.social, @ala-booklist.bsky.social, @chipublib.bsky.social, and @goshcomics.bsky.social. Many thanks to everyone who gave my debut graphic novel a chance!

Third and last of the comics about the ocean I made with @NPR this summer! One of the best things about working on this series was learning about scientists such as Dawn Wright, whose team maps the ocean floor.

The characteristic patterns of the sandstone are a result from the erosion caused by the pogonites ascending and descending the lunettes. During the day, pogonites bask at the top of the dunes; at night, they sleep in the valleys between the lunettes. Adult pogonites are territorial, and they rarely allow other pogonites to share the same basking perch. When confronted with a rival, they engage in a head-bobbing display to determine dominance. This appears to be a highly effective form of communication, as there is no historical or geological evidence of any pogonites ever coming to blows."

A gift for a friend, inspired by that scene from The Hobbit where the trolls turn to stone in the daylight, but fast-forwarded to a time after the trolls-statues had had time to gather moss and become part of the forest.
