Low cost insurance to working residents, school lunches, et cetera, are benefits, I suppose, though not necessarily free. Most benefits aren't "free" anyway, and are paid for through work/taxes and simply "free at point of access". But that's getting into the definitional weeds a bit.

Federally, unauthorized immigrants and even authorized immigrants (for five years) are barred from federal benefits and any state programs that use any federal funds. On the state level, some states have programs that don't exclude unauthorized immigrants, like food assistance.

I didn't claim that illegal immigrants don't get free benefits though. I said they pay taxes and don't get welfare, because, generally speaking, that is true. Unauthorized immigrants mostly still pay all of the everyday taxes that citizens do. The only exception would be under the table work.
