“Just do it.” I've always hated that advice. Everything has an on boarding process. If you tell me you want to learn to cook, I'll start you on pancakes so you don't burn down the house. If you want to get fit, I'll give you light exercises to avoid prolapsing on the gym floor. I think raw dogging any activity is more likely to lead to trauma and quitting. Some say this is fine because it weeds out the weak. Be real. We play video games and write about how they make us feel. If anything, we should be trying to preserve innocence and naivety rather than stripping it away and homogenizing our writing styles. Be even more real. The studio shutdowns, acquisitions, and layoffs have done on a number on the game journalism scene, so beggars can’t be choosers.

you haven't played a Good Game until a cow conveys to Judero prophesies of the future

Did a big ol' update on my website hiroshi-mcbride.dev and added a playlist of my music, powered by @reelcrafter.com which so far is working pretty well for me! My use here is pretty minimal, but it's quite powerful. Something to try for composers, sound designers, trailer makers, etc.

Four games I've worked on
Game: I Didn't Axe For This (2024) A low-resolution monochrome image of a character holding an ice axe in each hand, hanging onto a cliff face by one axe. Three bats are hovering around them Game: Void Bunny (2024) A sea bunny moving across a low-poly sea floor landscape. Game: DESCEND (2024) Two vaguely humanoid figures stand at the end of a bridge. The environment is completely dark save for two small lights, one at each wall of the bridge. The two humanoids are starkly lit by these lights. They appear to be looking at a large column in the distance. Game: Mama Kitty (2022) Image shows the rear of a small, plush black cat looking at an imposing structure in the distance. This structure is made of the same materials as a cat tower, and is partially collapsed and overgrown with moss. Balls of yarn are strewn about. Other cat towers are visible on both sides of the structure. The ground is grassy and covered in shrubs. The sky is a pinkish blue, and the sun is partially obscured behind the large structure, tesselating crepuscular rays towards the viewer. Large, five-pointed stars dot the sky, as well as a few floating fish.
