There has never been any actual evidence for his “brilliance” – and it’s a narrative that only serves to strengthen Trump while offering a convenient exculpatory tale for both those who support him and those who failed to stop him.

I agree with the general message of this piece, but "sinister brilliance" confers way too much credit. Sowing fear with lies about minority groups, then offering yourself as a savior through brute force isn't new or interesting enough to be evil genius. It's just the same old fascism.
