Started re-reading Bunny (after recently finishing the sequel/prequel) and I kinda wish these two books had somehow been combined into one longer book. I think it would have worked well.

Alchemised by SenLinYu 2.5 stars since I was obviously able to finish this behemoth and there were many portions that I did find well-written and compelling. BUT! Reading Alchemised is like experiencing the Plato’s Cave version of a fanfic I only vaguely know exists while someone is whispering in my ear, “This isn’t Harry Potter. Do you notice how NOT Harry Potter this is? Don’t even THINK about Harry Potter.” I’m just not sure this fanfiction works very well without its connection to Harry Potter. I do feel the author has built a unique world with a distinctive magic system, politics, and war to distinguish it from that of HP - BUT where it falls short is the characterization, especially in regards to the relationships between these characters. Without the massive history the fanfic had from the HP series, these characters feel a little flat and underdeveloped - especially the more minor characters to THIS story. The relationship between Luc and Helena feels paper thin without knowing that it’s basically AU versions of Harry and Hermione. There’s also no real history or much background established between the romantic leads (*NOT Hermione and Draco*) and so it loses some of the oomph I assume the fanfic had for this particular ship. I imagine that the original fanfic was written serially, and you can tell by how unnecessarily long and repetitive the book is. This needed to be edited WAY down - or a lot the wheel spinning traded in for flashbacks to the school days of these supposedly new, original characters. I totally understand why Dramione fans would have adored this when it was a fanfic, but I truly don’t think it works as original fiction. Thinking of it as a HP AU is the only way to really connect and get through it, which basically defeats the point.

Enjoyed The Unseen World in which we learn that instead of using AI to cheat in school, you could use it to seek closure with your dead dad. 😅

But something in Liston’s voice, as she spoke of her mother, made Ada realize that she had been incorrect in this assumption.
