Received these in the mail!

Ganymedes is a yearly collection of Dutch fantastic tales: this is the 25th year, featuring 30 stories.

I also got their magazine with more stories, and they threw in a free book featuring interviews with Dutch writers! 😄🖤

Wrote a thousand words for a short story about fungi and then realised I had drifted off and had been researching Nigeria, early Medieval nuns, and population growth for the past hour 😅

Finished @naominovik.bsky.social's short story collection today and got these two in the mail!

Going to start with @travisbaldree.bsky.social's new book before reading @maryrobinettekowal.com's novel.

I don't have any pastries at hand yet but have a feeling they will be needed soon 🤗

Another haiku for the theme #strange. I admit it builds more on my other haiku of today than the theme itself.

I hope the Ziltpunk movement is correct. That we are heading towards a utopian variation described by those writers, instead of a dystopia.

Elections here in the Netherlands next week. Climate is an edge issue in the race.

Meanwhile our country (which conveniently is in large part below sea level) is heading straight towards one of the more dystopian futures described by my fellow Dutch sci-fi writers.

Clogpunk here we come!

Finished the first volume of Murderbot by @marthawells.com , very nice stuff! Watched the series after, well done 🤖

Now onto the EdgeZero 2024 anthology of Dutch short stories. I read the first three stories and so far I'm having a blast! 🖤

Finished @wiswell.bsky.social's book 'Someone you can Build a Nest in'. Really enjoyed it, would recommend! It seems to have achieved everything it set out to do, which must not have been easy considering the main character. 🖤

Now on to read The Murderbot Diaries by @marthawells.com !

Got my first rejection, or rather: the absence of a message after the judging date went by and finalists were selected.

Rather than a defeat it feels as if it opens up possibilities. To quote that one Magic the Gathering card: "When nothing remains, everything is equally possible."

On to the next!

On vacation and finished the excellent duology by @emilytesh.net !

So today I went out and bought the only English language scifi book I could find in this city that I hadn't read yet: Katabasis by R. F. Kuang😊

My partner received her Korean copy of Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness today.

Love the way the writer's name is spelled, in a combination of 한글 and Latin script (the first 6 syllables on the second line) 🖤

And book awards are stylized with dots above them: Hugo & Nebula! 🤩

Nearly finished @shannonchakraborty.bsky.social's delightful The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi.

What stunned me most in this book weren't the fantastical encounters. It was the main character not having encountered tea yet, sailing the 12th century Arab waters 🤯

17/17 would recommend the book!

New book haul! Looking forward to these titles by @marthawells.com, @wiswell.bsky.social, J. Stroud and @naominovik.bsky.social !

Still finishing books by O. Butler, @tkingfisher.com and @shannonchakraborty.bsky.social

Not pictured: @emilytesh.net and S. Mandanna's books (arriving soon)

Finished the first rough draft of a new short story. Went outside to do some revising in the lovely weather 😎👌

The story:
- Modern setting
- Unintended side effects of a magic spell that actually works
- White supremacist nationalists being butthurt
- 12th century feminist 'witches'
🧙‍♀️✨🔥🤕🦹

Nearly done writing my 2nd short story!

On vacation in Belgium right now, checking out old libraries in the Printing Press museum in Antwerp 🖤

When I get back i'll do more editing on my 1st story before sending it off to sensitivity readers. Anybody have connections in Botswana?🤔

More people are considering AI lovers and we shouldn't judge.

Read and watch tip:
-Read 'Heart of Darkness' (1899) by J. Conrad,
-Then watch 'Apocalypse Now' (1979) by F. F. Coppola,
-Then read 'Shatterpoint' (2003) by M. W. Stover.

It's difficult to describe how good (and horrific) these pieces of media are. How they build upon and strengthen each other.
