"Le Defi Americain" always plays well in France. It was a constant refrain in my three terms on the EuroParl's Trade Committee.

"Reboot Britain", a collection of analysis and persuasion, edited by the ubiquitous Peter Cook, with modest contributions from myself & Dr Charlie Clutterbuck, is now out in paperback. A case for rejoining the EU as the only way to avoid the even further decline of UK.Support Indy book shops.

Having read Sinclair Lewis's "Elmer Gantry", brilliantly played by Burt Lancaster in the film version, I'm never surprised by what the priests and evangelists get up to.

Shame on Labour MPs. ECHR address in Strasbourg is Quai Ernest Bevin, named after Labour Foreign Secretary. Churchill usual gets the credit for the inspiration, but it was Bevin who gave the practical impetus. Labour denies its own history but Europe remembers.

Not only "supporters". Oligarchs, billionaires, shysters, chancers, all prefer authoritarianism, fascism to a more equal society, socialism.

Credit where it's due. Churchill suggested the idea & deserves some credit. He was never in favour of "universal" human rights, & vehemently opposed Indian Independence. The spade work was done by the 1945-51 Lab government. That's why ECHR in Strasbourg is on Quai Ernest Bevan (Lab Foreign Sec).

RIP Claudia Cardinale. Is there a more poignant, graceful scene is cinema than her waltz with Burt Lancaster in "The Leopard" directed by Visconti ?

Forever linked in my memory with the agonized death through exhaustion in the Tour de France of Tommy Simpson. Tommy was first Brit to stand a real chance of winning the Tour. His death alerted the world to the dangers of drugs in sport (1967).

I'm not sure that anyone taking matters into her/his hands is the best start for a "new" party. Sounds like a burst of the old personality fights which have wrecked left politics for decades.
I'm too old for another "People's Front of Judea" versus "Judean People's Front"
