I learned to default to doubt and a less optimistic stance. My reaction is, "Sure, okay." I give it a chance, but don't get my hopes up. Either I'm right to doubt, or pleasantly surprised when I'm wrong. In the meantime, I rely on myself for only my promises to be kept, and make none to others.

Not every day is salvageable, but tomorrow can be better.
