In the vast Himalayan plains of Upper Humla (Nepal), life follows a delicate energy balance. 🌄
In this rare footage, a Himalayan wolf and kiang share the same space without triggering a chase or an avoidance. 🐺🫏 A silent lesson of efficiency and coexistence in one of the planet’s most extreme lands

🏔️Honest communication is key to real coexistence.
Our conservation work in Nepal’s Himalayan ecosystems depends on trustworthy, on-the-ground information📑.

🫱🏽🫲🏾 And without embracing coexistence, we cannot speak of true conservation.

When used properly, as our director Geraldine Werhahn, also indicates in this video, Foxlights can drastically reduce livestock losses.

Through the Himalayan Wolves Project, we provide Foxlights to local herders across remote Himalayan valleys like this in Upper Humla, Nepal, to prevent conflicts

In this video, our fieldwork collaborator Pema provides devices and explains how Foxlights work — predator-deterring devices designed to keep livestock safe from Himalayan wolves and snow leopards. 🐺🐆

If you’d like to support our work, you’ll find the link in bio. Every contribution helps. 🙏

🐺💫 Ever wondered what coexistence really looks like?
Here, three curious Himalayan wolf pups share a mountain valley with domestic yak–cow hybrids left to graze freely.

In this rare footage, the pups and the yaks meet with mutual respect — curious, calm, and at ease. No tension, no fear.

🎥 This is how a real documentary is made.
Every second of footage shared here carries a story of effort, resilience, and dedication.
Here our incredible filmmaker Kat (@akt_final_final_1.mov ) captures it all — the beauty, the struggle, and the purpose.

Wolf pups play a lot. They sleep, eat, cuddle and play all day. Playing tones their muscles and sharpens their instincts which will be helpful for hunting later in their lives. And playing allows them to build their social skills and it is fun!

Kiangs are truly fascinating animals 🐴 ✨
As we’ve mentioned before, Kiang play a key role in the ecosystem as important large grazers and they also present as an important resource for predators, such as the Himalayan wolf 🐺, as well as the rich scavenger community.

Check out this black-necked crane 🪶 ( Grus nigricollis ) pair + their young 🐥.
Black-necked cranes are characteristic of the Tibetan Plateau 🏔️.
For 12 years, we have seen a pair in this valley — but never successfully reproducing.
So we were thrilled 🤩 to see them for the first time with chicks
