This is a more nuanced, specific #MSWL that I had up when I closed to queries earlier this week. It may change some by the time I reopen (so stay posted!) but this gives a probably more clear idea of where some of my specific interests are and what types/flavors of work I might be a good fit for!
Specific #MSWL items: The biggest thing I’m looking for rn are books with tones similar to those of the authors/titles listed below but with *new*, unrelated premises… • Snappy, highly commercial YA series with a sticky hook and memorable/endearing main character; probably contemporary (any subgenre), comparable to what GALLAGHER GIRLS was but with an unrelated premise. • Shorter books in the MG space (i.e., 250 pages or less): highly commercial, fun, tightly plotted and accessible to reluctant readers w/high concept premises and standout protagonists, especially writing with tones like Stuart Gibbs’, Varian Johnson’s, or Geoff Rodkey’s. • Highly commercial MG books that play with format and have robust storylines: think DIARY OF A WIMPY KID or TAPPER TWINS. • High concept, fun New Adult books that can start to branch out the emerging category with material that has tones comparable to Ally Carter, Stephanie Tromly, Jenny Han but with storylines calibrated to a New Adult audience. • Stories that involve characters participating in fandom or that dissect the phenomenon of the fandom (including nonfiction—I’m very interested in NF that explores the history of fandom, fandoms in general, or specific fandoms/trends!). • Commercial, pace-y stories that involve managing fame/fortune as a young or emerging adult. Really looking for high concept, not too introspective stuff here. • High concept, upmarket work that explores family/culture/history à la THE JOY LUCK CLUB. • Settings outside the U.S. tied to big idea premises with sticky hooks. • Fun, pace-y (maybe humorous) mystery series for MG or YA à la A STUDY IN CHARLOTTE, TROUBLE IS A FRIEND OF MINE, THE FOURTH STALL, Stuart Gibbs’ SPACE CASE or FunJungle, or an updated Nancy Drew or Trixie Belden (especially Trixie Belden!). • Lower MG with the heart and humor of Ivy + Bean or a lower MG version of Eloise. Illustrations in projects like these are always welcome!!! • Popular history or pop culture books.

For reference, this is my general #MSWL rn. I'm closed to queries currently, but these are the things that, overall, I am most actively seeking! I do, however, acquire other things too at times, so it's totally okay to surprise me so long as it's still in an area I rep.
General #MSWL: • Highly accessible, super high concept kids’ books in all age bands (especially with an emphasis on throw-back tones/formats but with *new*, unrelated-to-the-older-work premises). • Select Adult upmarket/literary work that is also super high concept and feels fresh and hyper relevant (especially work that explores or intersects family/culture/history à la THE JOY LUCK CLUB); and • Very commercial books for New Adult and Adult Gen-Z and Millennial audiences that feature sticky hooks and feel like they’re doing something fun, new, and BIGGER with their genre.
