LOL - my mom and her friends tobogganed on the top of the Scarborough Bluffs (Toronto) in the 1930s. Yes, yes they did.
They tied the rope around biggest kid and would all bail out before the drop off. The ‘anchor’ kid would stop the sled from being lost forever 😆

There is no such thing as ‘Canadian bacon’.
You are describing pork loin, known as ‘back bacon’ - or when coated in cornmeal, called ‘peameal bacon’. ⬇️
If a menu (or a living breathing Canadian) in #Canada says ‘bacon’, they mean strip, streaky, rashers of bacon - exactly like in the USA.
