This poor cargo freighter (the long, red horizontal thing to the left of the skyscrapers) got stuck sideways in the #Detroit River yesterday and is still there now. Probably not the way this poor crew wanted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the #EdmundFitzgerald in the lost ship's hometown.

Vietin Juhannusta kotikylässäni Toivolassa perinteellisen kokon vieressä Superiorin järven rannalla. Oli tosi ihana ilta.

Went to a play at the Senate Theater last night and was treated to a tour after the show where I got to see the organ that gets used for silent film shows! Detroit has it all.

Went to Bernie Sanders' Fighting Oligarchy rally in Warren yesterday with my sister in law and son where we volunteered, helping nearly 10,000 people into the three venues on a high school campus where he went to each site and spoke. Knowing you're not alone helps. Shared energy and purpose helps.

The Black Cat of Sabotage has called an early morning work stoppage. I think I'll snuggle in solidarity.

This 1930s ballad by coal strike leader Jim Garland was built over the ballad "Greenback $" which itself built over "East Virginia." Ballad rebirth I love but the greed class? Not so much.

The interplay between sun and glass on my office building gives me cool visual treats. Like a fanned array of sunbeam on the grass, or this morning: 2 suns rising out from the buildings!

Stepping out of one beautiful building in Detroit (the main branch of the library), only to be presented with another just across the street (the Detroit Institute of Arts).

A cool perk of my new job: in the process of planning public programs, I have to do things like roam around an island park between the US and Canada.

Sunny days and a corner office. The new life in Detroit at Wayne State University is starting out well!

So, uh, someone did a hasty job posting right before holiday break or there is an internal candidate already anointed and no need to make it appear to be otherwise. Whatcha think?

Learned this past week that ironwood does indeed burn super clean and super hot. Also learned this week what a sauna stove looks like when it gets warm enough to turn red... Ilmarinen would have been impressed.
