Then to the Staffordshire Hoard. Some beautiful Mercian goodies on display!
November 7, 2025 at 7:31 PM
Then to the Pre-Raphaelites. Lots of lovely stuff by local lad Burne-Jones, Ford Madox Brown and Rossetti.
November 7, 2025 at 7:30 PM
First stop: the Ozzy display. A few nice bits and bobs, but mostly platinum discs and memorabilia.

Not quite up to the standard of the Sabbath exhibition of a few year ago, but still nice.
November 7, 2025 at 7:29 PM
Then to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, again recently opened (mostly).

Back home, and relaxing from a good day in Birmingham.

Day started at the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter, only recently reopened after five years (and my main reason for going!).

A wonderful time capsule of a goldsmiths, left as it was in 1981!

Highlight of the day was Avro Heritage Museum. I was there for two hours, but easily could've stayed longer! Thoroughly recommend the cockpit tours and the WW2 Lancaster VR!!

Second was my first history hike since June: Adlington-Woodford-Wood Lanes-Adlington. Lots of good country walks and interesting historical buildings.

One of the places I'd visited a few years ago was Adlington Hall, but as it's just been sold, not sure if it is open any more.

Good day yesterday: two walks for the price of one!

First up, WilPoy #SlowWaysUK. A good country route, but needed a little rewrite.

Absolutely loving #ChiefOfWar. Had no idea Hawaiian history and culture was so brutal and complex in the 18th century during its unification.

This should be as highly acclaimed as Shogun was.

The street furniture is returning to Grange Road.

God forbid if you need a police van, ambulance or fire engine any time in the future...

Second was @maryoz.bsky.social LevKen Three (Levens-Kendal), a canal walk. Without a canal.
October 13, 2025 at 2:51 PM
Never did share my Saturday #SlowWaysUK walks, due to travel problems and tiredness!

First was ArnLev One (Arnside-Levens): a varied walk of paths, roads, woods, hills. And Fairy Steps.

And that's Stage 10 of @GmRingway ticked, and officially halfway around! Only taken a year!

Mostly uphill from Newhey, past the reservoirs; up over Windy Hill and the M62 bridge; Blackstone Edge and down the Roman Road to Hollingsworth Lake.

Tired but exhilarating!

Even if you take out all the Europeans and people of non-British origin, these islands are multicultural.

Countless languages, cultures, histories, customs, traditions. This was never was a homogeneous archipelago.

But we all know that this is just racist dogwhistling.

If you find yourself staying YHA Ambleside in the near future, you may find a little something by I donated...

All the reviews are done: ten done between eight locations; four pioneered; one snailed; one fail.

Didn't get what I wanted done, but still got a lot done. And here's how it fits into my routes so far.

Only just heard about Danny Thompson. Member of countless great bands, and a guest credit list vast and varied, his bass notes shall be missed.

Can't stay in Ambleside and not visit Galava.

I think I'm re-entering my Roman era...
September 25, 2025 at 5:58 PM
Thought I'd move my office outside this evening...
September 25, 2025 at 3:37 PM
Bright and early start today, as have two buses to get to the start of today's journey: TroPat One (Troutbeck-Patterdale) #SlowWaysUK, the last link from Carlisle to Windermere.

It's a bit...fresh.

I could think of worse places for #sitclub...

Watching the Typhoons weave through the hills.
