Email response from my representative " May 15, 2025 Dear Dr. Flores, Thank you for contacting me about recent efforts to cut Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs millions of Americans rely on. I appreciate hearing from you, and I welcome the chance to respond. Despite promising to lower costs, President Trump and the Republican majority in Congress have instead proposed cuts for some of our country’s most popular programs that provide a lifeline for millions of Americans. That’s why I’m working with my colleagues to build upon the expansion of Medicare and Medicaid to lower premiums, prescription drug prices, and out-of-pocket costs, and further expand life-saving coverage for all. I also know that many South Sound families and seniors experience food insecurity, which is why I’m working to cosponsor legislation that would reconfigure how SNAP benefits are calculated to cover the high cost of groceries, like the Closing the Meal Gap Act. Other federal programs, like Meals on Wheels, and Social Security are also targets of the Administration and Republican majority in Congress’s efforts to cut “wasteful” spending.
