In the current environment, the media or even well intentioned election analysts predicting who will finish in the top two – and therefore who the “real” contest is between - is in fact placing a thumb on the scales.

Well, actually she was being challenged (in fact there was no sitting MP) by 7 other candidates, three of who other than Boele got non negligible primary vote counts
January 6, 2026 at 12:48 AM
Every vote counts, in every contest that matters, even when you don’t know what each contest will be. However, we will not get this golden age if the media insist on reducing everything to a 2-horse race. In her recent book, Niki Savva stated that Kapterian was being challenged by Boele in Bradfield

With the increase in the minor party and IND vote, it could well be said that we are on the cusp of a golden age of CPV (or IRV) in Australia where everyone gets to vote for a list of candidates in the true order of their preference and the candiate who survives the longest (i.e. not excluded) wins.

In FPTP strategic voting has a point- that’s the main problem with FPTP- it’s inherently dumb.
Strategic voting is a bigger problem in CPV or IRV as it unnaturally distorts the voters intended outcome- for no reason at all.
January 6, 2026 at 12:23 AM
Well that’s an entirely different issue so little point raising it here. For 125 years we have had a majoritarian lower house and since 1949 a proper proportional representation (by State) in the upper house. It’s a good system
January 6, 2026 at 12:21 AM
This is true in theory but is under cut by immoral (should be illegal) encouragement of strategic voting. Voters are deliberately encouraged to NOT express their true opinions because of a belief or deception that to do so would be against their interests- often erroneously!!!

Whilst I agree OPV should be removed, the bleating from so called IND’s in NSW that Labor voters exhausting cost them victories was insulting and rather tiresome. Not all of them would have preferred the IND, as the federal election proved again

So could it be argued that this is an increase for the Government on the Morgan sample taken after travel entitlements “scandal”
December 21, 2025 at 10:51 PM
And still we wait for a 2PP count or for the AEC to justify why it believes it’s absurdly basic estimate is likely to be accurate

Your Fatwa against anything now issued by the Guardian is purile Paul, and the love affair with Amy R is kind of creepy. I’m taking you out of my life.

Perhaps it was actually internal polling along the lines of this result that Andrew Hirst was really “presenting” to the Party room last Wednesday??
November 17, 2025 at 12:40 AM
I don’t understand who she thinks should govern the nation? No one else got a higher primary vote??
November 7, 2025 at 9:57 AM
Thanks.
I think the Committee missed a trick by not differentiating misinformation of policy stances from misinformation about how the electoral system works. Surely it is within our capacity to develop guardrails so that the AEC can act on the latter, without impinging their independence.

I can’t seem to find your submission Kevin, so please let us know what you spoke about.

Kevin Bonham posted an excellent comment on Twitter/X in response to a question, as to why this actually is an important piece of information for future election purposes.
The fact you are so confident Ben, makes it all the more disappointing that the AEC are asserting their figures is accurate
November 1, 2025 at 9:44 PM
Why not just do the count on the ballot papers that weren’t subject of the challenge? That’s all but 700 odd of the 36,540 that haven’t been counted for 2PP purposes…..
November 1, 2025 at 10:14 AM
That was the reason for not undertaking the count at the regular time- what’s the reason now?
November 1, 2025 at 10:12 AM
What do you think of the decision, Ben?
Did the AEC provide you any reasoning as to why??
November 1, 2025 at 7:28 AM
Me thinks it’s time to let go of the grudge Paul, otherwise people might start referring to you as a total shit head.
October 13, 2025 at 8:11 AM
What where the Top 3 seats for biggest House to Senate differential for Labor? The National Secretary mentioned a large number is seats >10%
October 12, 2025 at 1:14 AM
When do you think we will hear from the AEC about a 2PP count so we can put the 2025 election to bed….?
September 25, 2025 at 10:36 AM
The other issue is Labor actually winning what are currently Teal held seats. Not all IND voters did so tactically, but plenty did, and once that ship reverses, the tide could go out quickly for a Teal that’s not seen to be the best way to defeat the Liberal candidate - looking at you Bradfield.

What a beat up. What will TAI complain about next? Ministers meeting normal people for free??
FFS..
September 13, 2025 at 3:35 AM
KB, have you got your head around what the judge has actually asked the parties to do yet? It seems they need to agree on which of the 798 reserved votes they can’t agree on. Will the judge then look at these on or before 2 October and make the “final final final” call??
