California excise taxes on tobacco starts at 12.5% and marijuana 19% (up to 48% with local taxes). Alcohol is 20¢/gallon.

I question the USDA “harvestable land” data for California. There is massive acreage in alfalfa, nuts, fruit, grapes for wine, rice, vegetables, dates, etc. Just drive I-5 and 101 through the valleys of Sacramento, San Joaquin, Salinas, Imperial, Sonoma, and Napa - all “harvested” by farm workers.

“He’s stealing our tax money and not following the laws.” That keeps it fresh in my mind because I have to pay taxes and follow the laws every day.
