It's also a matter of honesty. If I cannot trust an organization to be honest about their relationship with a foreign country, how can I trust their other disclosures?

Yes, but they coordinate and lobby on behalf of Israel. Doing that is regulated by FARA. Saying they're exempt because most of the money is donated by Americans is a disingenuous cop-out, and I'd be happy to apply that standard to any org that operates similarly.

I'd also add Indiana Dems, who are in a similar situation.
November 17, 2025 at 8:55 PM
As an Indiana resident, absolutely.

My literal only problem with AIPAC is that they aren't registered under FARA. I have no problem with Israel lobbying politicians, but they need to be honest and up-front about how they are doing so.

I don't think this is controversial.
November 17, 2025 at 8:48 PM
It's dishonest.
November 17, 2025 at 8:37 PM
I feel it's perfectly fine for AIPAC to lobby on Israel's behalf, my issue is that they present themselves as a domestic group and aren't registered under FARA.
November 17, 2025 at 8:36 PM
And I'm less concerned with the precedent it sets, as the remedy is "don't do shit so nightmarish everyone who witnesses it comes to the conclusion that those responsible deserve only death." It's very easy!

Technically, it's not a war crime to refuse a surrender. It's a request, nothing more.

Now refusing to honor a surrender after discovering they're an SS member would be.
November 17, 2025 at 8:11 PM
Ah. Then that's fair for them to do.
November 17, 2025 at 8:11 PM
My issue with AIPAC has always been with them portraying themselves as a domestic lobbying group, while openly lobbying on behalf of the Israeli government.

I'm fine with them doing that, but they should be registered as a foreign agent and treated as such under the law.

As I recall, they arise specifically from parents pressing statutory rape charges on boyfriends they don't approve of. Usually because of race and/or class.
November 17, 2025 at 7:59 PM
My position is that they need to be honest about it and just register as a foreign agent and be subject to those restrictions. I'm not opposed to Israel lobbying politicians, but I think AIPAC's attempt to paint itself as a domestic lobby is disingenuous.
November 17, 2025 at 7:56 PM
Christ, that's an unflattering picture.
November 17, 2025 at 7:50 PM
Look at fucking Indiana. It's in the north and it sucks here because Republicans have dominated the politics for decades.
November 17, 2025 at 7:48 PM
I was born in South Carolina and raised in Indiana. I'm proud of my roots, but both places need a Sherman's March through there.

The sum total of my legal knowledge is a one-semester civil law class and legal thrillers, and even I know better than to do this!
November 17, 2025 at 7:39 PM
That would certainly explain the sort of instinctive sense of unholiness I get from them.

I think it's the only Christian Dad rock ban I've seen.
November 17, 2025 at 7:33 PM
We do, however, have a Christian soft rock house band at both campuses, but that seems to have been due to having enough musically-talented members to have one.

My faith, my values and my religious identity is not a damn marketing gimmick for you to sell your podcast with.
November 17, 2025 at 7:26 PM
Everything in my church was old, used and imbued with the kindness, faith and hard work of previous members. There's no soul in this, no community. It's a hollow, empty edifice to greed, nationalism and bigotry, masquerading as a house of God, and it infuriates me to see places like this.
