It seems that the proposed new café building on Highbury Fields is now not to be. Islington Council has decided that, in current financial circumstances, it’s simply unaffordable, confirmed in update yesterday. Removal of dilapidated buildings starts in Feb, new loos and facilities from Sept 2026.

On Monday, a second large branch fell from a tree between Queen’s Walk and the playground. No foul play involved, it seems to have happened naturally, possibly because of heat or water stress. I gather there were people sitting nearby when it happened.

*** Highbury Grove closes from 21 July for motor vehicles in both directions for (wait for it) 15 WEEKS! The work by @officialthameswater will close different sections of the road over that time, but it will be impassible. The LTN barrier on Highbury Place will be relaxed.
