Protect Trans Kids.

Relatively unfocused these days. Formerly hyperfocused (and currently more normally focused) on bicycles, baseball, Star Wars, queer graphic novels, and Mormonism.
Doing my best to help!

@swilua.bsky.social do you know of an old tradition in which "women used to throw [the fruit of a mystery tree] into the fire, to find out who would be the next to marry?"

I'm reading middle grade fiction and it's stymied me with it's botanical lore.

"See, Cad Bane *is* a self-insert for Filoni, but not the way Filoni thinks. Everyone talks about how cool Cad Bane is, but he actually only has like 2 elite skills and a big hat, and he's constantly bested by kids, geezers, and goobers because he's got mad hubris and nobody ever tells him no"

Hey all, you should check out Ronin Island, by @gregpak.net

At its core, it asks "what do you do when your community claims to be inclusive and equitable, but you know it isn't, then it asks you to save it even though you know it wouldn't save you?"

The War That Saved My Life is a kidlit book that I really love. I first read it as an adult, but before I was familiar with queer history and culture, so I was oblivious to a lot of what was happening outside the child protagonist's perception.

My former coworker knows exactly how I prefer to network. I really like my boss, the only person I work with ever, but do not care for my firm, so I guess this year I'm actually gonna allow myself to be courted?

Conan the Librarian. Like Batgirl, Conan errs on the side of violence, but whomst among us has never felt the urge to lift a guy up by the lapels when he asks a question that the Dewey Decimal system has already answered? CtL represents early Germanic peoples at VFD gatherings

Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl. Yeah, Babs is in VFD, although her penchant for kicking villains in the face with a loud "THWACK" or "ZOINKUS" puts her at odds with the more pacifist elements of the organization

Paige Tuner, of the Elwood City Public Library. She joined VFD informally in the late 80s, and like any good librarian, she focuses on protecting crucial information and encouraging children to read widely and deeply

Turtle Princess is kind of a cop, and rarely stands up for herself or anyone else when Ice King is doing his wickedness. Not in VFD, I'm afraid. Not even aware that a librarian ought to be part of something bigger than the self.

Wan Shi Tong is one of the most ancient and venerable of the Volunteers. His ankle is too scaly for a tattoo that looks like an eye, though
November 30, 2024 at 8:36 PM
Jorge Luis Borges wrote one of the most iconic stories ever set in a library (The Library of Babel), which inspired another iconic story set in a library (A Short Stay In Hell, Steven Peck) and what is VFD about if not staring in the face of an impossible task and proceeding anyway.

Beverly Cleary is specifically shouted out as a noble librarian by Lemony Snicket himself in the novel How is This Night Different from All Other Nights, the finale of his All the Wrong Questions story. Cleary is one of the first authors kids read who really respects the full humanity of children

Swampy, the drummer of Love Händel who tragically loses his rhythm and his rock band, but happily gets a second lease on life providing book recommendations to the old lady book club as a defender of public literacy. The miserable middle of his story clinches it. This man is a Volunteer.

I don't know who needs to know this, but I just read the sweetest high school romance. It's hecking intersectional, the main plot is broken up by installments of a space punk manga, all the parents are affirming of their sapphic babies, and the art is very cute.

Boring context:
We're doing a pay equity audit, and I'm creating an excel file where we list all employees in each SSEG where we find a statistically significant difference in compensation between gender or racial categories.
