Happy #fragmentfriday to all who celebrate, especially this little fellow, who I only can imagine is a recycled parchment doc used as a seal bag.

Big fan of the marks of use in this ms, especially this very confident inscription of its date by a later owner

Busy getting everything ready for UK travel but this week a researcher found some great ms binding waste (from the Winthrop Library again) & its worth a small #fragmentfriday share

For #fragmentfriday today we've got some great in-situ binding waste acting as the cover of Weyer's De Praestigiis Daemonum (Basel: Iohannes Oporinum, 1566)

Recently I've been looking at it in comparison with a manuscript at Houghton (MS Lat 304) as there are some strong similarities. I don't know enough about production of chain bindings to comment on a further connection, though. (Better image of the chain here:

It also has shelving/ classification marks from whatever institutional library it came from, and damaged title slip.

Attempting a #fragmentfriday post because I need a bright spot in this week. This 15th c. German chain binding has some really lovely pastedowns from a 12th c. lectionary. Additionally, all its paper quires are supported by sewing guards made of ms waste

Since 2025 is going to be the year of too many late med.- early modern documents let's start off with something thats at least pretty to look at- 1615 right to free warren to Robert Crane of Chilton (1586-1643), 1st baronet. Slightly off-putting drawing of king James, seal partially intact.

This is swiftly becoming my top contender for most useless catalog card.
