USC, Los Angeles County’s single largest private employer, with a $7.6B endowment, has over 130 faculty and staff suddenly homeless, 2100 evacuated. Are they providing emergency housing or subventing rentals? Nope. Instead, they’ve started a GoFundMe.

After five years of effort, I was delighted to collect for the Computer History Museum yesterday the Sycamore quantum computing processor used in Google Quantum AI’s 2019 “beyond classical” milestone.

For anyone wondering what the secret sauce was in Amazon's "just walk out" technology, it turns out it was just thousands of workers in Indian manually tracking your movements and purchases... gizmodo.com/amazon-repor...
Amazon Ditches 'Just Walk Out' Checkouts at Its Grocery Stores

In my Future of Work class today we talked about data and trucking and surveillance. Obviously I showed a clip from Convoy to give British students a sense of American trucking culture. Mini shout out to @patrickmccray.bsky.social who also screens Convoy clips in class.

I like writing about fights on Wikipedia discussion boards because I get to make footnotes about TPS reports and "demands for shrubbery"
