And that I think is my main problem, we’re losing that, we’re taking the “getting there” for granted.

I’ve seen similar things being said in regards to critical thinking in college essays being lost/handed over to AI.

Yes AI should help us, but I don’t think we should give up “getting there”.

It’s the same for vibe coded apps, sure you “made” something but I feel like the creative process was lost? Almost as if it’s robbing you of an experience you’d otherwise have?

Robbing you of the “getting there”

I love AI as a explainer, as a teacher, someone to bounce ideas off (even when it gives me confidently wrong answers), but otherwise not so much.

It reminds me of “creating” AI art, why does all the AI art feel like slop? (I think) it’s because it’s based on a foundation of disingenuousness

And yes people have been shipping applications non stop, great.

Like I said in the beginning, my disdain stems from a philosophical difference. Of course AI is great, and yes you can create whole applications with it.

But should we? Lol

This isn’t a dig at AI assisted programming btw, but rather how it is used.

Completely Vibe coding apps (to me) feels wholly disingenuous, especially if I don’t understand the code, it feels like something was lost in the process.

Again sure you might argue that yes applications have been built

The feeling of creating things, imagining and then executing, bringing that to life and making something with quality is mainly what drawn me to engineering in the first place.

Creating things felt genuine. It reminded me of sketching or painting, the joy was in the building/ “getting there”

It’s awesome man, sure there’s a learning curve but I legit would not manage enterprise architecture with anything else.

It has made my days so much easier.

And now, my days are so much simpler, dropped an application in the cluster, stress tested with k6 and boom, ready to go. Incredible stuff man.

All without breaking a sweat

Argo Image Updater so devs can see their changes immediately, Karl enter and hpa for AutoScalling, organizing each application with helm charts.

It’s all so very cool

Migrating production services from scattered EC2s and docker compose to k8s has been so sick
