The creative knows how it feels to lose themselves in the process only to come out the other side more whole. More themselves.

An odd imitation of art arose within Evangelicalism. “If you like this secular band, you’ll like this alternative Christian band.”

I had a friend say to me:

“If I ever stand before God and I messed up—either by loving too much or not being true enough to scripture—I hope I messed up by loving too much.”

The same people who were outraged over the removal of Confederate statues—claiming it was about preserving history—are now silent as Black stories quietly disappear from military websites.

It was never about history.

Christians: you are not being attacked when people say loving your neighbor looks like using their preferred pronouns.
You can think whatever you want about pronouns, but it’s not an attack on you. It’s their request for you to respect their decisions.

Nothing profound or thoughtful to say tonight. I’m just here to say free Mahmoud Khalil.

A lot of people confuse defending conservatism as spreading the Gospel.

Give me a faith that comes alive when exploring its limits.

Not a faith that only exists by defending itself.

When Jesus separates the sheep and the goats, I’m sure the goats will say something like,

“But Lord. We didn’t want to commit the sin of empathy.”

If grace were limited or conditional, it would no longer be grace. It would be credit.

Grace, by definition, cannot be something that runs out, because the moment it does, it stops being grace and becomes a wage, a loan, or a contract.

Most people who deconstruct have experienced prolonged religious anxiety—sometimes from childhood through middle age. Others felt it deeply throughout their formative years of high school and college.

Evangelicalism has way more fear baked into it than we realized—of “the world,” of getting it wrong, of hell.

So much of what gets taught—evangelism, behavior modification, even Bible study—isn’t about encountering the beauty, peace, and radical love of God. It’s about defending against an enemy.

The more extreme they had been about purity, the more loudly they supported him.

Overnight, they went from saying, “There should be higher standards for presidents!” to “Well, we don’t need to pry into his personal life.”

Here’s a little bit about me.

Grew up evangelical.

Deconstructing but holding faith in the Christ of the Gospels.

Speaking up against the abuses of Church.

Shining my small light on the inadequacies within Evangelicalism preventing it from actually caring for people.

And as Jesus hung on the cross, he turned to the thief and said, “today you will be sent back to where you belong.” And all the people whom he saved from their sins raised their mass deportation signs and cheered.

Two kinds of Christians:

Option 1: Sodom and Gomorrah is a warning about homosexuality.

Option 2: It’s a story of Abraham having a heart of compassion and asking God for mercy.
(Oh.. and not about homosexuality but about r@pe and power)

Ok then.. I’m weaponizing empathy. If you mean I’m angrily calling on you to show empathy to people even if it costs you something.. then yes. I’m weaponizing empathy.

I am an immigrant to God’s country. Desperation drove me there, but when I arrived they said I didn’t have the proper paperwork.

But Jesus called it nonsense. He gave up His citizenship for mine. Now, I live in His house while He’s still out there, bringing more across the border.
