Really feeling this. I’m an American but currently getting my birthright Mexican citizenship given the current political climate.

There’s a real chance that I’ll have to move my family back to my roots.

Thanks for giving me a more positive outlook

In those days I used to post frequently on Twitter about design/AR, so I’m hoping I can find my space again here.

If you see this, lmk who I should follow! Maybe we can get inspired together!

Thanks for coming to my TED talk 😂

When Covid hit, I had to reassess things - I focused on my webdev/design skills and became a Creative Director.

There is part of me that’s looking to get back into the space, but I’m really turned off by Meta, and Apple’s headset seems like it fizzled out.

I had the imagination and design chops, but couldn’t code my ideas well enough to get off the ground.

After 6 years I was burning out.

I noticed I slowly stopped going to events and lost that excitement I had for new apps and hardware.

Back then you could really feel the bubble growing closer to bursting.

We blamed the technology limitations, the expensive headsets, the hyper-niche business applications and eventually a few of us switched over to WebAR for mass appeal.

But as an industry we really struggled to get away from the gimmicks.

The tech sector and the arts (2 pretty neurodivergent fields) came together to make the industry and I wonder if that’s what helped to inflate the market projections. We all saw the benefits for our way of thinking - but broad market appeal just wasn’t there.

I saw so many people working on complicated mathematics, pioneering immersive storytelling, and frankly dreaming of a world with context that only our niche craved.

The more I interacted with the community the more neurodivergent folks I met. At the time I had no idea my brain chemistry was “atypical” - I thought I just really struggled more than everyone to stay motivated and focused.

I have AuDHD (autism + ADHD) and fell in love with AR because I felt like I was working on the *next* interface - this super technology about to give all the necessary extra context on the world that I felt was missing.
