Sellers can ask whatever they want for a record. No way it will ever actually sell for that price, though. The median price for an original pressing is $60-70.

Sssshhh! Don’t say that too loud. 😆

What is this bullshit… 😡

‪Does this ever discourage you, though? The thought that someone as dedicated as Vallée can spend his whole life studying this subject and still have no definitive answers? It does me… Maybe “answers” aren’t the point…and we need to be okay with this?‬

This is the issue. Not everyone has room for massive physical media collections, even if they have the desire for them. I have thousands of records, books, and movies…and literally no more room for much more unless I allow them to completely take over the house. Compromise is often a necessity.

I subscribed intermittently over the last few years and managed to acquire a lot of their releases. Still need to fill in some gaps, though.

And that’s 6 Australian dollars. When converted to US dollars, it’s even cheaper! Long Form Editions will be missed, but they left us a whoooole lotta good sounds…

Especially considering that this release is the first release in a new Strata East reissue series. Why limit this one album? Makes no sense…

Just wish it weren’t RSD-exclusive…

This was a fantastic article, Jason!

As someone who has taken a deep dive into the subject over the last several years, I often feel like my time would be better spent elsewhere. Answers aren’t forthcoming. And maybe “the mystery is the point,” anyways. And yet…it all seems so pointless sometimes…

First time watch, Fred?
January 20, 2025 at 10:28 PM
Well, sure. That’s certainly a good thing!
January 15, 2025 at 4:01 AM
Yeah, that makes sense…and I get it, but…damnit! Shout Factory. Ugh.
January 13, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Yep. My thoughts exactly.
January 13, 2025 at 5:02 PM
Great news, but…why did it have to be Shout Factory? 😣

“A certain kind of teenager from a certain generation”…reminds me of something I often wonder about: are teens these days still affected by these writers? As a teenager in the late 80s/early 90s, the discovery of Kerouac, Burroughs, etc was life altering to me. I wonder if it still has that impact?

Another thing about VS subtitles that I dislike is the font that they use. Almost like the letters have jagged edges? I’ve never seen any other label use it.

Maybe the reasoning is that they stand out more against the visuals, especially for black and white films. But for me, they stand out to a distracting degree. And yellow is just…ugly. Especially that sickly, pale yellow that VS like to use.
