Whoops, I wrote 1/96 instead of 1/72. But my point is that px doesn't mean 1/96 everywhere, at least in SVG. It's set by the display device: developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W...

HTML/CSS however will use px = 1/96 in

The standard actually doesn't define a size for the default units (px). You can however specify dimensions to be in pt (1/96 inch), in, or cm. It's probably your laser cutter interpreting px at a fixed DPI of 96, not a problem with the SVG standard
