In Japanese, the word philosophy is 'Tetsugaku' (哲学):
'gaku' meaning science/study and 'tetsu' meaning wisdom
==> 'study of knowledge'

But it used to be translated during the early Meiji period as Ki-Tetsugaku, where 'ki' (希) means to seek
==> 'study of seeking wisdom'

I’m curious to see how it handles the Cyclops episode.

When the Cyclops Polyphemus asks Ulysses his name, he replies Outis, Greek for “Nobody”

Later, when blinded, Cyclops cries out: “Nobody is killing me by fraud.”

There is poetry in Homer that will be hard to rival on screen

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

My petty gripe: not only am I losing my livelihood to AI – now it’s stealing my em dashes too
The humble em dash is being used as a tell that something is written by a large language model. But it’s James Shackell’s favourite piece of punctuation, and he’s not ready to lose it
