I'm glad FF Tactics is getting an updated port, but has there ever been a 'smoothing filter' that doesn't look like pure ass? People cannot expect me to think, on any subjective or objective level, that the image on the right looks better than the one on the left.

Off the top of my head, 'RPG made in Japan' is the definition r/JRPG goes with. Triple B in this same thread also uses that definition. The mechanics-based description is by no means the prevailing description for 'JRPG'. There's frankly no agreed upon definition, which is why it's such a bad term.

While I'm here I might as well shout my semi-topical, semi-hot take into the void: 'JRPG' is and has always been a nonsense genre name with no coherence, and the world would be better off without the term.

A jank AF game that I would play 250 hours of again. Arueshalae is the best girl. Ember is a sweetie when she's not talking like an atheist redditor. Daeran is a fuckboy, but I love him inspite of that. Aivu deserves a hug. The Dance of Masks is the Citadel DLC but better.

I realize one reason I like the Yakuza games so much is 50% of the sub-stories hit the story beats of an AU where Josuke jumps into someone's story, and saves them from a tragic life ruining event... And the other half is Kiryu voice acting in a Yaoi visual novel.
