I want to wish everyone a Happy International Women’s Day - except right now it doesn’t feel happy.

So instead I will remind you that movements move slowly, and temporary losses are not the end. Even if this takes longer than our lifetimes, we must keep our heads up and keep pushing for equality.

“If the freeze is not stopped, I might lose my house."

Some NSF-funded postdocs are having trouble paying rent and credit card bills because their salaries were paused this week, even though the federal funding freeze memo was rescinded.

This is such a clear explanation of what is causing me, as an obgyn, who cares deeply for women of all races and ethnicities and for transgender people, to feel utterly terrified. My career started at the NIH, before med school - we need their work.

Cecile Richards spent her life fighting for health care, reproductive rights, and freedom for all. She was a champion for women at a pivotal time, and will be greatly missed.

My thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.

My 7yo son, in asking me to read him ‘Who was Martin Luther King Jr’ and watch his ‘I have a dream’ speech, reminded me of the importance today of not just remembering this hero, but of his message. This reminded me we must consider morality in our actions, and question what seems unjust #mlkday2025
