2026-1: Heavy Weather. Short stories themed around supernatural weather stories, including Du Maurier's The Birds. Each story is delightful but the editor's attempt to frame each in terms of the changing climate is perhaps a little clunky.

Saw #ThePoltergeistArcola at @arcolatheatre.bsky.social last night and was really blown away. The play has an emotional intensity that makes it exhausting to watch but we were very glad to have seen it. Louis Davison's performance is so engaging, effortlessly sparking from tragedy to comedy. 5*!

I have read eight books this year, which is relatively good going. Unfortunately I have acquired twelve books, excluding gifts. This is unsustainable. I will not stop.

The Swiss have mastered the art of making cannelés affordable by making them *tiny*. Cappuccino for scale.

I finished reading a book today. So I bought myself three new books. As a treat.

This year I want to do more to support queer and other minority groups, ESPECIALLY creators in said groups.

I’m starting by backing this awesome project by @rdpires.bsky.social

Full disclosure: we’re friends, and I blurbed this book (so I’ve already read it)!

There is a special kind of joy that comes from visiting #GaysTheWord to buy a book that is only bested by visiting #GaysTheWord and having someone else buy a book for you.

It’s even worse knowing that Wes actually met trans kids, listened to them cry about how awful it would be to go through the wrong puberty, how this is a lifesaving treatment, and is fucking doing this anyway

It’s even more heartless than shutting them out of conversations
BREAKING: I have seen confirmation that the indefinite puberty blocker ban for trans kids that was passed by the NI Executive yesterday will be UK-wide. It will come into effect on January 1 2025 when the temporary ban expires.

It is being laid before Parliament today.

Switching from British to American detective fiction has given me such whiplash. Gone from pottering around a sleepy market town with Wexford to being stalked on the freeway with Scarpetta.

Time for the Rome/Florence St Sebastian round-up. We'll be bringing you the best (well, all) of the St Sebastian portraiture we found in the last week.

We're starting off fairly traditional with a painting from the Vatican Museums.

Found a cheeky @museumbums.bsky.social in Florence today. 👀

The square outside our hotel has live music. It's the only square in Florence with live music. It's a busker performing to an audience of half a dozen. They're so loudly amplified we can hear them in the hotel room. Last night the music ended at 1am. It all seems so unnecessary.

@chrismccartney.bsky.social and I have just spent over eight hours in the Uffizi. WHAT YEAR IS IT?

For financial logistical reasons @chrismccartney.bsky.social is paying for most of our meals in Rome. This is not stopping me from pretending I'm a 1920s twink being whisked round Europe on someone else's dime.

Hilariously getting labeled as adult content. Bluesky, darling, it's a 2000 year old statue in The Vatican. You can let it go.
There are a LOT of Ganymedes ( ... and Antinouses, and Saint Sebastians).

This one, I think, really has a go at making it look like Zeus chatted Ganymede up *as a bird*.

"Sooooo, wanna get out of here?"
