My theory on the nomination of Matt Gaetz as AG... Trump did this as a "favor". He knew Gaetz would not get the votes but it gave him a reason to resign without being questioned or seeming suspicious since the Ethics Committee was supposed to vote today. He resigned too quickly after the nomination.
