Just been treat to a great view of a Lancaster Bomber as it did a couple of flybys of Fort Paull

Absolutely glorious evening at Outstrays NR yesterday, with maybe 15 Glossy Ibis present and two Cranes in flight (lifer!).

Close views of 2 SEO - stunning in the evening light.

Not been recently, I love what they've done with it. Good natter to a local birder too. Great stuff.

Been so busy over the last couple of months I've not been able to be out locally much. So it was nice to have a couple of short lunchtime walks this week. Not a huge amount about, but a Porpoise in the Humber yesterday and and a #PWC2025 tick Shag today were nice to find.

We were in the area, so yesterday we had a visit to some of the @ldvnnr.bsky.social reserves for the first time.

Most birds were more sensible and hid from the heat, but we had some nice walks. Big thanks to the wardens at Bank Island for Ada's book. She loves it!

We'll be back!

Caught a blackbird feeding his young on the wildlife camera this morning. Pretty cute!

4 Red Kites flying over the village together this afternoon is the most I've seen on my patch.

Ada is a @yorkswildlife.bsky.social member, so when she saw the Hoverfly Lagoon article in her latest magazine she obviously wanted to make one.

So that was his afternoon's post-school activity! Nicely positioned in the (currently under construction) "wild area" of our new garden.

Apparently it was World Saltmarsh Day yesterday, so here's a photo looking over the #PaullHolmeStrays mud to the saltmarsh.

Not a lot about this lunchtime, but I did see a Short-eared Owl flying over the adjacent farmland.

Normally more of a winter bird here, so nice to see!

Very fun day in Kilnsea with Ada today.

Heard and (maybe) saw the Nightingale at Sammy's Point. Curlew and Wood Sandpipers at the wetlands. Couldn't find the Turtle Dove. Definitely now my UK bogey bird.

Finally, an amazing view of a Red-rumped Swallow flying alongside the car.

Back from 9 days in Chalkidiki. Lovely place and lots of birds - 76 in total I think. Not worked out how many were Greek or World ticks yet.

Flamingos should be the highlight, but despite looking for the a LOT, I've never seen Turtle Doves before.

Nice to see a few dragonflies around the Car Park pond at #PaullHolmeStrays.

Sat in the garden in the sun with a beer this evening and picked up my 100th #PWC2025 bird of the year. A Swift briefly joined the House Martins over Paull.

Very brief stop at @rspb.bsky.social St Aidan's on my way to the office today.

First Swifts and Common Terns of the year, and about 6 Black-necked Grebe.

But these were easily my favourite...

Family run out to the North Star at Flamborough for lunch, which was lovely as usual.

But first, a quick stop at #RSPBBempton. The usual highlights (Puffins were very popular as usual!) but a bonus Short-eared Owl too.

Windy lunchtime walk on #PaullHolmeStrays, but one that brought 4 #pwc2025 ticks. Whimbrel, Wheatear, Yellow Wagtail and this sleeping Tawny Owl.

That'll do.

Booked in for the YWT/The Deep Shark Egg Hunt today at Spurn. Lovely day for it.

Couple of eggs and a fossil found.

Couple of NFY birds too: Yellow Wag, Wheatear, Sedge and most importantly a Grasshopper Warbler - it's been years since I last heard one!

Oh what a day. Ada requested "somewhere new". So we set off to @rspb.bsky.social Blacktoft Sands.

Lots of NFY including Garganey, but also Sand Martins and Willow Warblers. I also saw Water Voles and a Grass Snake! My first ever UK snake - both PSL ticks.

My 2024 #BirdTrack Year. Mostly in Yorkshire!

Nine species fewer than last year - didn't get close to the 200 I would have liked.

Some "easy" birds missing too - Nuthatch, Common Scoter, Ruff, Barnacle Goose and Spoonbill were the most common according to my Bubo targets.

Quite the #YorkshireBirding week.

Smew among 55 species at #TophillLow on Monday, Scaup at #NorthCaveWetlands - 60 species, but missed the Twite!

Work in Leeds on Thursday, so called into #RSPBStAidans (saw a Bittern) before my 3rd lifer of the year with Snow Goose on the River Hull en route home.

Exactly where you said they were, thanks!

Definite spring-like walk at #PaullHolmeStrays this lunchtime. Waterfowl numbers dropping, singing Skylarks, and at the last minute the first Chiffchaff of the year.

Also the first Butterfly (Peacock) of the year too.

Really fun Daddy/Ada day at Spurn today.

1W Caspian Gull at Kilnsea was my highlight, but Ada's was undoubtedly the close flyby of a Short-eared Owl. "That was amazing" she said. Also saw several GND at sea.

First trip of the year to one of our favourite reserves.

North Cave Wetlands is always great. Lots of birds and loads of friendly people for Ada to chat to.

Highlights of Siskin, Goldeneye & Red Kite.

Thought I'd have a nice walk to Saltend in the sun. Wasn't expecting the bitterly cold wind though.

Still, 3 new #patchworkchallenge ticks, including a singing Skylark that didn't care about the cold!

Just sorted out my Paull #PWC2025 January list, 54 birds for 56 points. Marsh Harrier and White-fronted Goose are the 2 pointers.

Was out of the country till the 18th, so that's not too bad. Still plenty of common birds to find (like Pied Wagtail!).
